Factfulness

Factfulness

written by : Hans Rosling with Ola Rosling & Anna Rosling Ronnlund

Factfulness is the book that changes your perception towards the way we see world & human progress.

This book tells you to broaden your spectrum or levels. Let's see how? This book may seem big and boring but if you are good thinker. This book will help you gain more discussion & thoughts to explore than ever.

There are good statistics and example in the book which makes us think .

Let's take Chapter 1 :  The Gap Instinct

We are made to think in binary . Good & Bad, Rich & Poor , Hero vs villain . We have grown up listening to this terms and subconsciously we start thinking in binary . A majority of the people think like this. Whenever we make decisions or opinion we tend to think in this way . Work , finance, attitude , growth everything works in this.

This book changes your view around the same. There are levels in this which are self explanatory . We just never knew.

For e.g. Let's see the what changes at 4 levels.

L1 : It's toughest where population is barely able to eat one full meal , walk barefoot or have basic medical system in place. It's mostly crop / agriculture driven countries .This is toughest level to grow in life.  Roughly 1 billion people live like this.

L2: At this level Population can afford to buy food from market , maybe use public transport system . This life is better that L1 but still not best. One expensive medical bill and you will fall to L1. At this level people always try to level up to L3 .  Roughly 3 billion people live like this.

L3 : At this level people have better access to education and can get good jobs. Good jobs bring good 2 time meals and nice plans. There kids grow and get better jobs . This population has problems but may not drop to L2 . They will have mechanisms to maintain L3. Roughly 2 billion people live like this .

L4 : At this level people have good education , good income , good medical facilities and they think about changing the lives of other 3 levels. Some may do and some may not. Roughly 1 billion people are at this level .

There's full chapter here to help you change your thoughts towards way you think.

If you are in decision makers or policy makers. Stop thinking binary . Think also about those mid levels where you can make difference. Around 5 billion people are living those. L4 people Work for uplifting Lower levels. L3 & L2 shuffle always . L1 is toughest to crack .

How does this help ? When you want to make a difference you should focus on these middle levels because if they grow , They will uplift the lower levels.  To change your thoughts from binary to level approach . That's Gap Instinct.

There are more chapters likes these:

2. The Negativity Instinct.

3. The Straight Line Instinct

4. The Fear Instinct

more chapters like Size, Generalisation, Destiny , Single perspective , Blame & Urgency instincts.

If you are able to complete this book.

Factfulness will change your way of thinking and approach towards comparisons, fulfilments , success & failure in life.

I can give more examples but then what's the fun in it :-) . Read it to know it .

Recommendation people who should read this book :

I strongly recommend this book to thinkers,  journalists, policy makers & business owners.  The book gives you a new perspective & broadens your way of thinking towards world .

The Spy - Paulo Coehlo

The Spy

-Paulo Coehlo.

This is story of world famous female spy(she never was , wanted to be called Spy)  "Mata Hari" .

This is not a biography or war story. But it's based on real facts .
It's beautiful novel written by #PauloCoehlo which gives insights about emotional, romantic, responsible , patriotic and free spirit of Mata Hari.
I don't want to disclose the story and ruin the book for you but to get your reading tastebuds going here are some beautiful excerpts from book :

"Yes, i turned this gossip into "secrets", because i wanted money and power. But all those who accuse me now , know I never revealed anything new.  "

"Flowers teach us that nothing is permanent : not their beauty , not even the fact that the will inevitably wilt, because they will still give new seeds, Remember this when you feel joy pain , or sadness. Everything passes, grows old, dies and is reborn "

"The clothing was formed of veils layered one on top of other. I removed the first one one paid attention , second & third people exchanged glances,  by fifth audience was focused. Even the women, whose eyes i met now and then in between movement. When i got sixth , i simulated an orgasm , cast myself to the ground while removing the seventh and final veil " For moment i did not hear a single sound from audience, then came the first "Bravo". I knew that were i in my country, i would be sent to prison but France was an example of equality and freedom . "

"That was my life ; I am the nightingale who gave everything and died while doing so"
Sincerely ,
Mata Hari

I gave this excerpts to get you to understand how the story flows . The feel which it is written . It feels as if she herself is narrating the story . The plight , the pride , sensualness, suffering, sacrifices, love  and emotions all relates to real life experiences for every women . She describes it for every women .
I am almost tempted to write the who

le story here but author has taken his time and efforts to write such a beautiful novel . Give him his deserved credits.

I have a Dream

I have a Dream

-Rashmi Bansal

So here's s something new from Rashmi Bansal. I like Rashmi's concept of highlighting case studies of startups, companies, people . She does it in very playful way , like a story mode, It doesn't feel like you are reading some long and extensive business case study .

I have previously read and reviewed Rashmi's book , "Stay hungry Stay foolish" .

This book Is all about Social Entrepreneurship . Believe it or not there are people in India who work not of profit making or self motives but for others. They have made it mission of their lives to make society better, improve the lives of unprivileged, underprivileged. They are using creative concepts and ideas to achieve this.
Rashmi has selected good examples , all different , unique in their nature, approach, strategy but with one Aim, to make It all better.

She has divided the book In various sections:  Rainmakers, Changemakers, The Spritual Capitalist

Let me try and explain the above :
Rainmaker: This are those people and/or organizations that work on some business service, model, product manufacturing. The motive is not for profiteer or profit-making but to generate profits and give it back to less privileged. This helps the people to maintain their dignity , they work hard to archive this profit/income. The motive of this to uplift their lives so that they do dignified work, and earn their bread with their hard work.

Changemakers: This are those people who had an idea, formulated it and made the change happen. It's not easy, they put their efforts, saw the downfall but never lost hope in their cause. Some started micro-funding without any guarantee against it , just the trust. And it has paid off. Then other started teaching voluntarily and also encouraged her friends to teach , it started a movement and it's been working in whole country .
It also covers Right To Information(RTI) act , people who made it possible for us to question government and have assurance of a reply in given time . RTI has been one of the most instrumental inclusion in India Government laws . People are getting their queries resolved at faster pace. Ask the proper questions to proper people concerned. It is significant change.

Spiritual Captalist: These are those people who had that spiritual enlightenment . They got their push through Dharma, good deeds . Akshay Patra is one such example. Imagine feeding thousands of people everyday , with proper food management, people management and time management. Doing ti everyday all on donation money!. Akshay Patra is dong this ever since the inception. Who says religion is only prayers and rituals. It's also a social effort, community a medium that brings people together .
One just changed the concept of Ashrams. The ashrams is home to unprivileged girls all over . It provides for their residential, education, food  needs . The students here are being taught to be the better people in the , academically, morally & financially.

I recommend this book for all . This book drives that feeling of doing good and giving back to the society.
There are lot of innovative ways to do it. Who says NGO run, operate  all Donations only. !!

The Dreamer's Dictionary

The Dreamer's Dictionary

Understanding the deeper meaning of your dreams

-Stearn Robinson and Tom Corbett

I read a variety of books. I wander in lot of locations, to search for books . One of the best affordable book locations are the old book resellers, old book exhibitions.
I found this book is such an exhibition . I always wondered what my dreams mean.
We all have heard stories of good dreams, bad dreams. We have experienced ourselves too . The feeling emotions and sometimes life experience after such occurrence.
Dream interpretation can sound like something rubbish , or hocus-pocus kinda stuff but in real it's just a case study or account of or aggregation of experiences by various people on similar dreams. There's no proof, there are no facts , there's no science. It's just what you believe.  and I BELIEVE .

This is no much of a book review but an insight in this type of books . What you expect , type of explanation etc.

Let me give dreams's explanation for :
What does Dreaming of  Flying means!?

Flying : This is one dream symbol on which practically every source from artemidorus on down agrees. It represents dreamer's basic ambition. , but the interpretation of flying (like a bird) is modified by the details of the flight and its conditions. So the surrounding , weather etc .. must be correlated with the action , but as a general guide.
If you successfully maintained your flight , at a low to medium height, you can expect to achieve your goal without much difficulty .
If you were trying (or straining) to reach a high altitude , the dream is telling you that your grasp is greater than you reach and you would be wise to alter your course.

What does Screaming in Dream means ?
Screams: A sort of contrary in that to hear the screams of others signifies that you are likely to hear distressing news;however , to dream of screaming yourself is considered a fortunate omen for all that concerns you closely.

What does Fighting in Dream means?
Fight : The basic meaning in a dream of Fighting is change . For a business person it signifies a change of enterprise; for an employed person change of job. The degree of success or failure you may expect from the change was forecast in the outcome of your dreamed fight . If your dream concerned other fighting , it is warning against waste of time and money in idle pleasure.

So this book is dreamer's dictionary .I gave some examples of it .

If you want to know what your dream means , Comment and i will write down it too you in reply .

Storm the Norm

Storm the Norm

-Anisha Motwani

This book is one of the finest case studies kind of book . The author has explore on the success stories of 20 Brands that you see everyday , know them but never have given thought . How did they become part of your lives!? Brands like Tata tea , Makemytrip , Sensodyne. Cadbury , Kurkure,Sprite..and lot's more , If i tell all you won't read it.
Let me give you an insight to this book ,
What does "Sprite" reminds you !   by tv commercial you immediately get the word "Clear he.." or "Seedhi baat no bakwaas" . Sprite has drafted it's advertisement as such that it relates to youth. Straightforward approach , that striking attitude, clear thought. The adds keep you involved and related. The Author has given that observation for Sprite which makes you wonder , how a normal lime aerated water can be symbol of youth .
Take another brand "Tata Tea" what does it remind you !.. right now in your head it's "Jaagooo Reyyy " . See the beauty of it, the two words are intertwined with each other. Tea is most consumed drink in India. It's a symbol ,it's a gesture, it's an offering, it's also medium for those unsaid hospitality norms. We all love the tea(chai). We offer it as honest gesture to guests ,recently it's also related to bribe someone(chai-pani).Now imagine this product along with a revolution, revolutionary idea, excitement. "Tata tea" comes with confidence from trusted name like Tata and then it's a Tea. Perfect combination to build that trust. The tv commercials, i guess every Indian television viewer must have seen this commercial or advertisement once. The words and the content in commercial that it gives you that empowering feeling. Author has given prefect outline of the Tata tea brand.
Then there is Idea, Sensodyne and soo onnn.

Just go ahead and read. It's a good book .

This book is a must recommend to new entrepreneurs to understand how brand building works.
This book is must recommend for marketing managers, brand managers, media persons , advertisement developers.

The Silence with the Living Souls

The Silence of the Living Souls

-Jude Volkart

The Silence With The Living Souls is an life story of a boy , eyezak . The story has lot of characters closely associated with eyezak. His parents, his guardian, teachers, sister-nuns etc.

The flow of the story unfolds  life incidents of eyezak . This whole story is journey of eyezak from childhood to grown up man .
Story is full of life incidents . This story is different than normal happy ending stories, or casual novels. This

There is no sugar coating to the serious events that occur in eyezak's life , it's harsh reality and it's described as such .

For. e.g , in initial chapter of the book you will get to know , circumstances of father and mother's death. We can only try and feel the feeling a kid goes through but author has described those feelings in words. Author described the feeling that a kid goes through , how he accuses himself, how it impacts psychologically , health , social well being. So many feeling and experience.
Then it so happens that the kid grows up with these feelings, with known/unknown people, unknown circumstances. so many things

You can relate to the story , don't give up , This book is very different than the books you might have read. The flow of the emotions and experiences is incomparable. Different people can make their own opinions about the book but if you are hardcore reader read it full to unravel the life mystery of eyezak .

I would recommend the book for serious readers who like experimenting with reading ,psychologists ,

Beyond The Last Blue Mountain

Beyond The Last Blue Mountain

A life of J.R.D Tata

Author :
R.M. Lala

Wow , yes that's my review for this book . This is not just a book but a very well written document of life of J.R.D Tata . Reading this book has given me so many insights in life of i would daresay best businessman ,socially driven, adventurous, patriotic and motivated person in world. I was always curious to know the history behind Tata's and this book has given me good info .

This book has presented the life of Mr. J.R.D Tata very effectively. First chapter gives introductory account of his family and ancestors. Starting from Mr.Jamsetji Tata who founded the First Steel Plant of India, University of Sciences and  the first hydro-electric project in early 19th century during British Raj . Tata & Sons was established in 1987 by Mr. Jamsetji Tata, Son Sir Dorab Tata, Young Cousin Ratanji Dadabhai Tata(R.D) .

Starting with his Jamsetji's introduction , Sir Dorabji ,Mr. R.D. Tata . It gives a fair idea of the strong foundation that was being built for Mr.J.R.D morally and in business.
Mr.J.R.D was born on 1904 . He was named, "Jehangir" meaning the conqueror of the world. Well as you see he did :) .
Very well documented information is given about the then political situations, France, India etc .This gives us idea in which scenario, environment and circumstances he came to this world. His early childhood and growing up , the industrial growth , starting of aviation .The excitement ,adventure, frenzy surrounded by Aeroplane and flying . His time in French army , his return to India .
Then the story begins how he at the Age of 22 started to take responsibility for the business.
His friends , relatives, colleagues, seniors , all have played a vital role in grooming Mr. J.R.D .
His adventurism has been a significant factor in his decision making or risk taking . He has always handled the situations very well . It automatically developed into him.
He was the First Indian  to get the license from Aero Club of India and Burma on behalf of FAI . His certificate has "I" which was very special for him . This was beginning of something exciting for him and India. His liking for flying inspired him to create a business out of it . He started the Tata Air Lines in 1933 and after that it's a story in itself.
I daresay , business was a secondary point in Jehangir for Airlines, He must have started the business so that he can officially fly around in his aeroplane with expenses covered. :-P Jokes apart but it was begining of an era of Aviation  in India.
J.R.D 's attraction was always towards flying . He handled all the businesses but Tata Air lines/Air India was always close to his heart , later which became Air India .
There are lot of twists and turns to the story how his hand was forced to form Air India and takeover by Government . It's emotional , political ,strategic, letter exchanges all those situations are very well recorded .
He headed many organizations in Tata group . Took up challenges to revive losses.

This book gives very good account of his friends and friendship . He always stood by their side in good as well as bad times, in good health and bad.
His letters reflect upon his communication skills. He always was good in communicating to people.
His meeting , phone calls ,letters with politicians of free India , during British Raj everything is very well documented through his letters.
His faith in people and their abilities, risk taking , perfectionism is reflected from his Air India Chairmanship . He brought the Air India a unique recognition and it was the best service provider in top world Airlines . He was the person who added that Saree can be adorned beautifully in glamorous air hostess roles instead of skirts or dresses alike. It gave that uniqueness to Air India .

Wow, Writing this book review is so difficult for me, every part, chapter is important .
I have learnt a lot from this book . Some things cannot be just defined in words, you just know it .
Just go ahead read this book . Must read for Entrepreneurs,Businessman and passionate people.

I love the series and have scrapped thru all seasons . I wanted to know the the story behind these. How it all came into as series , the inspiration and actual book behind it.

This book is good for reading but i daresay , its same as season . Not much surprises, I was literally having visuals  while reading . No surprises in the book :( but it hooked me . I read and read and read. Sometimes i wouldn't know time. The story, well everyone knows that already , I don't want to reveal it . Lord Eddard Stark's story is well covered and good.
Small description of story who haven't seen the series :

The story revolves around the iron throne, it's a throne for Lord of Seven Kingdoms . Politics , kingship, family drama are essence of this book . The story has so many characters and believe me surprising characters. The family traditions, love , sex , incest and controversial relations. The historical touch , the magical mystery , politics it's just wow.

iWoz

iWoz
-Steve Wozniak and Gina Smith

This book is awesome . It's gives a new limelight on Apple and it's foundations. How it all started and became world's renown brand .
We have all read Steve Jobs story ,a great visionary , an artist  but who made that possible!!?
Steve jobs was good at visualizing the future , taking bold steps, marketing and branding but without technology Apple wouldn't be the  top selling brand.
Steve Wozniak was a major force behind this. He is a true engineer and best known . Simple philosophy of life , simple rules , content with what he had , generous ,humble and prankster.  When you read his biography you shall understand how apple was founded and how the engineering worked. I give credit to Woz for Apple II , best gadget in those times. It was a revolutionary product . Engineering and technology was the base from where apple started.
This book has given the full journey from Steve Wozniak's perspective and it's interesting.
From how a genius like him is born , to pranks he played, technology he built , the inspirations , friends he made, parents support , split-up with life partner and so many aspects of life that go behind building up Apple.
I truly admire Steve Wozniak engineering thinking , simple and elegant. I'm no Steve but i know the feeling :) .
There are lot of photos in the book. Lot of narration of incidents , clarifications and confessions.
It's fun to read.
For all those entrepreneurs and motivated engineers . This book is for you .
And last Apple fans .. you gotta read this ... :)

Ramayana-The Game of Life-Shattered Dreams

Ramayana-The Game of Life

Shattered Dreams

Now this is an incredible book . After reading Ravana's perspective in previous book "Asura" , Ram's perspective comes refreshing. Thanks to Blogadda.com ,i got the book for review and it turned out so well . We have read ,experienced Ramayana in stories, Epic ,movies, cartoons and TV Series . I have had it as optional subject too in my school days. So somewhere i knew the whole story at heart.

Now what makes this book different is the narration and description . The fine notes and explanation  at bottom of the page and sections. The descriptions, quotes, meanings and small explanations are so beautiful written:
"Unity without loyalty to a common goal is like cement without water to seal bricks"
"Manthara is using the good quality if being charitable in the future as a reason to be cruel and selfish in the present... "
"Attachment always preceds detachment. Sita could detach herself from so much because she was deeply attached to Rama..."
For story i had second thoughts should i read the book or not since i knew the story already but these small explanations and notes kept me hooked.I always welcome good virtue and knowledge . It makes one a better person . This book fulfills that requirement .
There's no secret about the story and plot . So i'm not hiding the story or plot. It's Ramayana . It's story cannot be changed but if you ever attended "Ram Leela " Play at City fair you would know what i'm talking about. Story is same but narration and enacting makes it beautiful.
In this book also story is same but narration is wow. If it would have been old days, this book could be "Shubha-Ramayan" or "Shubha-Vilas-Ramyana"  like we have "Tulsi-Ramayana", "Vasistha Ramayana" ,"Agastya Ramayana".All these book have same story with different narration style and some events added or removed. I'm surprised and amused that author's like "Shubha Vilas " Exist who can relate to old stories and replenish them with today's scenario and language.

The book has wonderful narration , just get one to experience it .

I recommend this book to all kids and teenagers . I advice to parents please do get a copy of this book to groom your child into Virtuous person with high moral standards .

Discretion : It's a story book , a novel . It does not promote religious or ethnic thoughts. It's a story of good human beings with good qualities. It's applicable to all humans, the moral, family bonding, love between brothers , love for husband-wife, sacrifices to honor parents words/orders/wishes ,love towards community. It's just beautiful . Just ignore the religious affiliations if any (this book doesn't have) ,it's a good read.
This stories have so much to learn as human that the story became a religious text, inspiration .That's the power of Good writing ,stories and moral of a book.

Home is where you family is..

Home is where you family is..

In present world where people live outside their homes, away from family for working . Trends have changed , previously people use to search job near to their houses, same cities or nearby cities. In today's MNC world ,it's very distant dream and one who gets a job near to house is one of the luckiest.
We work hard, day and night . Put our efforts but there comes a time when we want to share our day or relax in arms of our loved ones but you miss it . All these happens just because you can't afford to buy house or may be you are not planning to stay in that city .We work hard in optimism that this hardship will payoff and you will have your home , family with you  .This is the optimism attached with owning a house.
I personally have been to lot of places Thanks to my dad. Coming from defence background we moved a lot all over the country . We didn't stay more than 3 years at a place. Well it was good but somewhere dad felt we need to permanently settle down . My dad had been outside his home, village for more than 20 years. So he longed for it. My dad would say "I have worked a lot outside now it's time to go back home ,live with our family and friends ,our city ,our place. "
Although we could take a home in Mumbai/Pune/Hyderabad . He chose hometown ,a small village in North Maharashtra. He said i have lived my life, now will settle down here. You as youngsters spread your wings and go where you want but at end of the day you will come back to your nest. I feel it's right too. Somethings don't work as planned :( , but anyways . Defence jobs,MNC job take you to distant places. You work hard for your family ,to keep your family together with you .My dad used to talk about his longing to go back to village, his house. He would tell me how it was to work outside, how it was at home, he would tell me stories of village,of his friends. He said he wanted to contribute to the society ,his village and attend every single family event :D . There's lot of feeling attached to it which cannot be explained in words just felt. This feel comes inherent to us all . The feel of going back to your home.We have a house at village . I too have that feel of going back to my house and i will .
For now, recently i shifted my family to Pune  purely keeping education and job scenario in mind. Took a house , luck by chance i own a house at this age so my major issue is solved. Atleast i don't have to worry about home loan installments for better part of my life. :)
The satisfaction of owning a house cannot be compared . You get a feel that you have somewhere to go back to . Whenever i go to my house, i know someone is waiting for me at home. Well for now it's Mom :P , laterrr...you know.
You can relax. You forget your worries. This optimism is wow, it just comes automatically .That's the best part of it.
I go home ,talking with family ,laughing, relative visits,Gossiping :P , teasing sister etc etc. It's the best feel .
Home is what keeps us bounded together. We can see it in nature .Every small animal ,insect makes a home and they are driven towards it. Birds fly to remote continents but fly back home .That's the power of this feeling.

You know when we talk to our parents about home ,it's fun to hear their stories. And you can't help but get mesmerized. :)

Optimism is in every smile.
Optimism is that when you know nothing can go wrong, even if it does everything is going to be alright. :)

You always go back to your house in optimism that you have somewhere to go back to .
You go back to your house to your family , to your near and dear ones . Whatever happens you are optimistic that next day would be better. This is power of optimism .Many times we get setback in our life ,some major crisis happen those are the moments when optimism keeps you going.

"Optimism is a strategy for making a better future. Because unless you believe that the future can be better you are unlikely to step up and take responsibility for making it so. If you assume there is an instinct for freedom, there are opportunities to change things, there’s a chance you may contribute to making a better world. The choice is yours."  Noam Chomsky
Optimism is all about positive attitude,can-do beliefs, expectations ,choices and strategies ,acknowledgement of the fact that you are responsible for your life and that you have the ability to be effective on your own behalf.Optimism propels you to go forward toward your goals and vision. The optimist takes credit for the things they have accomplished, savor the victories, and utilizes them as fuel for the ongoing journey of dreams and discovery.Optimism can generate  improved physical and mental health, longevity, performance excellence, creativity and success in attaining goals and dreams.
Optimism can come by default in your attitude by your education , surrounding and guidance. Those who don't have this attitude they can learn it . Yes it is one of those traits that can be learned to make your life better. An optimist never gives up .Edison experimented hundreds of times before he got success to build a working bulb. Pessimist will call it 100 times failure ,an optimist calls it 100 attempts. The optimism is not in giving up but it's in trying again . If you can build this attitude ,success is not far.
It fuels your dreams, fuels your life. :)

New home New Life.

New home New Life

#StartANewLife.
https://housing.com/.

I come from army background.  We have been changing cities and location for long time.
Each posting/transfer made brought new friends and new culture. I have been to all corners of the country . Every time we shifted ,we left a soul of us behind but then we got new friends and it brought more happiness . During dad’s service years we went to Assam,J&K ,Rajasthan ,Hyderabad,Uttar Pradesh .
Recently I took a major step to shift my family  to Pune.  We settled down in  Pune, Maharashtra .We bought a house and couldn't more happy and proud .  New house ,new community ,new environment. We made new friends, new culture. Everything seems so refreshing . Couldn’t ask for more . We got a new start .
It's feels rejuvenating. We are rejoicing in our new home. We painted the house , we bought new things to our house. Decorated and designed the house as per our wish . We had so many discussion , who would take which room , what colour to paint , which furniture goes where. This is fun . Those who moved in new houses recently  would understand my joy . So many feelings ,joy comes with it.
We are getting new things to our house , building it up piece by piece and making it ours. We have done so much shifting that when we finally settled down in Pune . I cant express the happiness in words, it can be just felt :-) .
I am exploring my locality , city. There's market nearby , so my mom gets to feed me all the fresh green leafy veggies , there's temple nearby so nani is all happy-happy , small park for kids if any kiddo comes by . I am still exploring , found so many good places nearby house. That's fresh start, to build new relationships.New shops, vendors, neighbors,  locality. You get a new chance to start all over again . Well some may be satisfied in there permanent locations but i'm one of those who likes changes .

Get a new house, shift cities, relocate to new place  and experience a fresh start . It's awesome :)

  • They have beautifully integrated mapping for tracing location of ATM's ,Branches and it works.
  • Signup or Getting on Board as Axis people call it ,is very easy . Use internet banking,Debit card numbers,Credit card etc. This really eliminates the hassle to apply in bank for mobile banking ,then verifying it etc etc .

Asura

Asura

Tale of the Vanquished

The story of Ravana and his people .

Author : Anand Neelkantan

Wow, this book is amazingly written . It portrays an altogether a different aspect of Ramayana.
Asura is tale of the asura community whom Ravana revived and led to perish too. I saw this book during my Local train Travel and was intrigued . Ordered one from amazon . Worth the money. :)
I am loving this genre of books which are portraying the hindu mythology gods as humans. It makes sense ,people of Indian have had exposure to lot of cultures mixing up,stories mixing up .We have build many stories and few mythology books like vedas ,Ramayana ,Mahabharatha,Gita,Puranas etc etc. I have reviewed about Shiva Triology : The Secret of Nagas ,The immortals of Meluha,The oath of Vayuputras ,All portrayed the characters as Gods and Demons . I wonder if they were humans and we made them God because of their good moral characters and charisma .
"History is written by Victors"
This is proven fact, it's so obvious that victors wrote all good things about themselves but what about the loosing side!!?
Asura is one such attempt which shows the other side of the war and No wonder it's possibility that it may have been true.
We have had the evils of racism on base of skin colors, we have had casteism and history has proved that Religion was major reason for wars .
We have matured upon these ideologies but i would want to know the other part of story .

Book Review: Asura book has tried to show other side of Ramayana . The story of Ravan and his Asura people. Story is First person narrative , mostly by Bhadra and Ravana. Some other characters also had their part. Asura were supposed to be most developed ,democratic and cultured society during the reign of Bali ,an Asura emperor. Then Devas dynasty took over them and asura empire was in perish .
Ravana is portrayed as a leader of Asura born in those times. He faced the sufferings ,he opposed many deva customs .He decided to lead and revive Asura from ruins . I his journey he did many good things ,he had high temper and pride ,followed asura principles but he also changed or improvised when required.
Bhadra was a common man whose family was destroyed by Devas. He wanted to avenge his family and he carved his way to Ravana to do so . He was a loyal and faithful follower of Ravana . He did many sacrifices for Ravana and never demanded anything in return .His motive was to destroy Devas. His character is the major character of story , he narrates the events that occur during the story.
Sita here is portrayed as long lost daughter of Ravana . In South India there is variant version of Ramyana which mentions Sita as daughter of Ravana.
Ram ,Lakshaman ,Hanuman ,Sugreev etc are the same characters as Ramayana. Only in human form and with human errs like betrayer, cunning nature, pride and ego . It's story of course , Someone has to be bad. Ram has been mentioned as Good person in wrong hands and it's same in Ramayana too.

Story has been inspired by the events in Ramayana but view is of an Asura. That changes the way we see the story altogether. Here;s small extract from book
"I am a non-entity – invisible, powerless and negligible. No epics will ever be written about me. I have suffered both Ravana and Rama – the hero and the villain or the villain and the hero. When the stories of great men are told, my voice may be too feeble to be heard. Yet, spare me a moment and hear my story, for I am Bhadra, the Asura, and my life is the tale of the loser"

I don't want to reveal the story but this is amazing book . A must read. Read it :) . My recommendation.

The Royal NEEM Bath

The Royal NEEM Bath

This article is written for

"Garnier Pure Active Neem"  @ Indiblogger

I have been using face-wash and scrub since teenage days. Thanks to my mom ,who happens to be a beautician .
So skin care yeah ,i have been doing it . I had that pimple treatment kit. So i was always on the safe side. :) .
Now in twenties we don't get much of pimple problems but once in while if something does pop up i just use  face-wash .
I have been using Garnier Intensefresh for quite some time and happy with the brand.
Though i like the cool minty freshness of Intensefresh i might try  Garnier Pure Active Neem.
Surely would review it  .
I have used other brand though and it's always good to be natural as much possible as you can. Now don't try and wrap your self with NEEM Leaves ,It's itchy, bitter and neem smeling. I tried it :P ,umm well mom made me do it. It's considered good to take bath with some neem leaves boiled up in water and mix it with bath water . It's nani's way to ensure i'm free of all skin problems . So yeah that's done once in while when nani comes by  . :)

See  Neem has lot many benefits.:
1. Clears Acne and Dark Pigmentation.
2. Prevents Recurrence of Blackheads.
3.Treats skin infection.
4.Prevents Acne Breakout.
5.Turns skin Clear
6.Treats pimples
7.Controls Excess oils
8.Add glow to skin
9.Treats skin dryness.
10.Treats skin allergy
11.Heals Psoriasis
12.Treats Eczema
13.Blood Purifier
14.Treats malaria: Yeah for this i was given the royal NEEM BATH.

and many more . : please feel read this fantastic blogpost for detailed info http://www.stylecraze.com/articles/amazing-benefits-of-neem-for-skin-and-hair/

My experience : I was given royal Neem leaves bath :
Procedure:
1. Search for NEEM TREE in Concrete city of Mumbai . :D
2. If you do find it . Climb on it and get bruised in hands. (YEAH that happened. )
3. Get the leaves.
4. Boil them in water .
5. You will see water getting greenish-yellowish .It gives neem odour,(I wouldn't call it foul odour. Nani will scold. :P )
6. Mix this with bucketful of water or if you are lucky to have bathtub, Feel free.
7. Close your eyes, nose and just pour it .
8. Avoid licking your lips , It tastes bitter .
9. Finally come out with that odour and chillax. All your skin worries are taken care of.

The above remedy is by my nani . Thank you nani .
However you try you cant stop nani from doing this  :P . Whatever your age maybe ,10 or twenties .

Now this is to make my nani happy and also neem benefit.

There's shortcut that avoids, the odour and effort of searching neem tree in Concrete cities. Take a branded NEEM Herbal Cosmetic Product. There are lot of benefits of neem so if a facewash comes with Neem it's good for you . Trust it. It has been mentioned in Vedas , Herbal Medicine books and Nani's Ayurvedic formulas .

Till then guys . Best way to have good skin is to avoid soap on face. NEVER .
Use facewash of your choice and stay fresh :)
Garnier Pure Active Neem Seems a good choice .
Give it a try .
